Gender

There are many many more boy bears than girls bears, this dates back to first bear which were names after Teddy Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States, his link with bears results from a hunting trip in 1902 where he refused to kill a captured black bear for the sake of the kill.

Of course in our household this means that the competition for female bears can be fierce from the very moment they arrive. Despite this most of the female bears in our house group together and ignore the boys.

Of course some bears do pair up but in general the girls are much less interested in the boys than the boys are in getting the attention of the girls. Nevertheless they are always a welcome addition and their mere presence encourages better behaviour of the male groups as a whole.

Bears and cuddles

As you may expect Bears like cuddles, as bore out by the number of Bears who feature cuddle in their name. If there are no humans around to oblige with a cuddle they have a tendency to cuddle each other - earning themselves additional cute factors! Of course the best cuddle comes from their human and leaves them warm all the way through.

Of course Bears also understand that the cuddle is part of their job description and a good cuddle can make everything right with the word. In fact is works from anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart anything can be made better with the right cuddle.

Doodle and Slacker Jr having a cuddle. Here my friends, Doodle and Slacker Jr, demonstrate the cute factor associated with the cuddle.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to my guide to bears

I’m Dr Flopsy and I live with a large number of bears. Over the last 10 years I have studied these bears and this site is to share my accumulated knowledge with you.

As you have guessed from the picture I’m not a bear, which means I have been able to observe and report on bears from an independent viewpoint. This has become more than just a hobby as the years have passed and the number of bears living with has reached over 100. So I’ve decided to create this site to discuss my thoughts and opinions on bears and answer any questions that may come my way.

I hope that you find my future posting on this blog of interest and they will help you care for the bears in your life.
